Mesh is a structure, not one material experience
Mesh backrests can improve airflow and flex with movement. Comfort depends on tension, frame shape, edge placement, and how the mesh supports the back.
Mesh seats need careful testing because the front frame and tension can create pressure for some users.
Fabric and foam vary widely
Upholstered seats can distribute pressure well and offer many textures. Foam density, thickness, contour, and fabric durability matter more than a generic “padded” label.
Fabric can collect dust or stains but may be easier to repair or reupholster than bonded surfaces.
Climate and noise
Warm rooms may favour breathable designs, while cool spaces may make open mesh feel less comfortable. Some mesh or plastic structures can create noise as they flex.
Material choice should be considered with clothing, room temperature, cleaning needs, and shared use.
Inspect the edges
Regardless of material, check the front seat edge, side frames, seams, and contact points. A comfortable centre section does not compensate for a hard frame that presses during normal movement.
