A stated weight rating does not describe seat width, arm spacing, depth, backrest fit, or long-term durability. Review the complete dimensions and intended-use statement.
Usable width is the clear space between firm edges or arm structures, not always the widest upholstery measurement.
Look for appropriate testing
General-purpose and large-occupant chair standards address different use cases. Ask what standard and model configuration were tested rather than relying on a vague “commercial grade” claim.
The warranty should explicitly cover the intended load and usage period.
Entry, movement, and desk fit
Check base stability, armrest strength, desk opening, turning space, and clear paths. A wider chair may need a wider workstation bay and doorway route.
Casters and floor surfaces must support stable movement.
Comfort remains individual
Higher capacity does not automatically mean better fit. Seat depth, edge shape, back contour, temperature, and controls still need to work for the user.
