Casters are part of the chair system

Caster diameter, stem type, tread material, load rating, and rolling resistance affect mobility and seat height. Replacement casters must match the chair base and manufacturer guidance.

A larger wheel may roll more easily but also raise the chair.

Hard floors and carpet

Soft-tread casters are often used on hard flooring, while harder wheels may suit carpet. Verify the specific product rather than relying only on colour.

Floor mats need to lie flat and should not create a trip edge.

Control unwanted movement

On sloped floors or tasks requiring stability, locking casters or glides may be appropriate if approved for the chair. A chair should not roll away during entry or exit.

Do not mix caster types or sizes on the same base.

Inspect regularly

Remove debris, check for cracks and looseness, and replace damaged casters as a complete compatible set when necessary.

Practical checkWrite down the chair's actual adjustment ranges and compare them with the real workstation. Do not rely on category labels alone.
